Tamil Nadu Crop Loan Waiver Scheme : The Tamil Nadu government has decided to waive crop loans of more than 16 lakh farmers in the state. For this, the government has approved Rs 12,110 crore for the farm loan waiver scheme. Chief Minister K Palaniswami also gave certificates to nine farmers in the programme. It has been said in the certificate that till January 31, 2021 , the loan taken by the farmers from cooperative banks has been waived off.
At the event, held on February 5, Palaniswami announced the waiver of crop loans worth Rs 12,110.74 crore by 16,43,347 farmers from cooperative banks .
The announcement was made in view of the damage to crops following last decade’s cyclones ‘ Nivar ‘ and ‘ Buravi’ apart from heavy rains in 2020.
The event was attended by senior officials at the state secretariat, led by Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Agriculture Minister KP Anbalagan and Chief Secretary Rajeev Ranjan.
